Initial Project Conference

On 10th June, initial conference of the project “Textile Recycling to Sustainable Solutions”, implemented by the association of the “Women Center of Uzice” and the “SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victim of Violence” from Niksic, two National Employment Services – department of Uzice and Employment Labour Bureau in Niksic, together with the Zlatibor Regional Development Agency from Uzice.

Conference was a great opportunity for the official promotion of Project which started on 11th April and will be implemented during the next 15 months. Participants were addressed by: the representative of the Joint Technical Secretariat of Cross-border Cooperatio Programme Serbia-Montenegro, Mr. Goran Prebiracevic; member of the City Council of Uzice, in charge of youth and international cooperation, Mr. Branko Gavrilovic; president of women`s parlamentiary group, Mrs. Danijela Vasiljevic; president of the Women Center association, Mrs. Radmila Gujanicic; coordinator of the SOS Hotline association, Mrs. Natasa Medjedovic; representative of the National Employment Service – department of Uzice, Mr. Radoljub Sunjevaric and director of the Zlatibor Regional Development Agency, Mr. Slavko Lukic. During the working part of conference, presentations had: Mr. Milos Radojevic, the project manager, who spoke about project results; Mrs. Radmila Gujanicic, who put an accent on role of women in economic development of the community; Mrs. Marina Tucovic, project associate, who talked about textile role in sustainable development and Mrs. Ana Djokic, representative of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Zlatibor District, and she addressed the audience on the role of textile in the inclusive society.

All speakers were unanimous that recycling and re-use of textile is the great example how to improve life condition in local community through sustainable management of raw materials. This project has inter-sectoral impact on the segment of social security, as well as on environmental protection and economic empowerment of vulnerable populations. Those are three pillars of sustainable development which make this project extremely important for the two local communities that are involved in project implementation.

At the end of final part of conference, organizers staged the exhibition of items made of redesigned and recycled textile, which was prepared by the graduates of the School of Art from Uzice, together with their professors, Ms. Ivana Stamatovic and Ms. Tatjana Jovanovic.
