The Centre for textile recycling was officially opened in Uzice today, in the presence of numerous guests. The Center is the result of many years of efforts of the Association named The Women's Center in order to achieve the economic strengthening of women, promotion of women's creations, creativity and care for the community. The premises of the Centre have been renovated and adequately equipped thanks to the project Textile Recycling for Sustainable Solutions, which is funded by the European Union within the Cross-border Programme Serbia - Montenegro. In the workshop of the Center it is planned to start up a mini production of items made of used textile and to employ 10 women who have acquired the necessary skills through the same project.
In order to utilize the Center's capacities in the best possible way, the Zlatibor Regional Development Agency, in collaboration with the Art School in Uzice and the designer of the brand named Superheroine nice girl, organized a competition in which the school students created preliminary designs for souvenirs made of textile. The idea for the use of used textiles for the promotion of tourism potential s of Western Serbia region, is a part of the activities within the project SMART INNO which Zlatibor RDA has been implementing within the IPA Adriatic CBC Programme. The intention of the organizers of the event was to merge the two European projects and to achieve better results and thus to promote this socially and environmentally responsible idea in a better way.
The official opening of the Centre was also used to mark the International Women's Day, March 8th, as a symbol of the struggle for economic, labor and political rights of women, with a particular emphasis on the importance of the role of textile female workers in that struggle.
