The Creation of Regional Centre for Competencies in Catering

On Friday, May 25th, 2012, Tourism and catering school of Cajetina reopened redesigned School restaurant on Zlatibor. The restaurant is renovated in order to provide better conditions for vocational education of future caterers and affirmation of catering as a profession.

Redesign of School restaurant is just one of the range of activities realised in strategic partnership of Private sector development programme (PSD) which is implemented by Regional development agency Zlatibor and financed by Swiss Government, School authority of Uzice, Cajetina municipality and Tourism and catering school of Cajetina. The purpose of this partnership is to promote catering as a profession, improve average level of the competencies of caterers and contribution to solving of the one of greatest problems in Serbia – problem of human resources.

The hosts of reopening were pupils who have been passing programme of improved vocational training system during this school year. The training has been organised as the result of partnership, and among guests there were their potential employers, tourism agents, representatives of local self-government and Ministry of education. Guests were served by Darko Sijakic, Dragoslav Cerovic, Petar Ivanis, Nemanja Ljubicic and Lazar Peric who, also, won the first award of recently held Kragujevac Fair of Entrepreneurship in the category of new products: spread made of Zlatibor cheese with green pepperoni, chocolate and cherry so as butter with plum and brandy/nut and cranberry.

Ruska Dabic, the team leader of PSD, emphasised her satisfaction with the level of cooperation in the improvement of vocational practice, and, also, the necessity of the establishment of model which would be helping the School to organise vocational training in the most qualitative manner. Restaurant should gain profit in order to invest in modernisation of school education system.

Visnja Smiljanic, director of Tourism and catering school of Cajetina thanked to RDA Zlatibor and PSD on successful cooperation and repeated that knowledge and skills that pupils have been acquiring during this training helped them to find job. 17 out of 19 pupils of waiter course, who passed the training, have already found the job.

Arsen Djuric, Cajetina deputy major, pointed out that Zlatibor records intensive growth and that the lack of professional human resources is more noticeable. He added that redesign of school restaurant and modern vocational trainings will help young people to get interested in professions of waiter, cooker, confectioner, and other scarce proffesions.
